Iran goes under one hundred hours of near-total internet blackout
The shutdown comes as widespread protests continue across the country, initially triggered on December 28 at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar by the rapid depreciation of the rial and deteriorating economic conditions. The demonstrations have since spread to multiple cities.
Human rights monitors report significant casualties and arrests, with at least 490 protesters and 48 security personnel killed, and over 10,600 people detained. Official figures, however, have not been released.
