US strikes three vessels in eastern Pacific, killing eight people
The action resulted in the deaths of eight individuals who were aboard the vessels.
Reports indicate that the mission was authorized at the highest levels of the U.S. defense leadership and carried out by a specialized joint task force operating in international waters.
The vessels were reportedly intercepted while moving through maritime corridors commonly associated with narcotics smuggling.
As stated in official communications, authorities said the operation was based on prior intelligence assessments. Those statements included the following:
"Intelligence confirmed that the vessels were transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and were engaged in narco-trafficking.
"A total of eight male narco-terrorists were killed during these actions—three in the first vessel, two in the second and three in the third,"
According to reports, the strikes were part of ongoing efforts to disrupt transnational drug trafficking networks operating across the Pacific region.
