Putin says Russia to achieve all goals in Ukraine operation

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Russia will accomplish all objectives set out in its special military operation in Ukraine.

Key goals, outlined in 2022, include protecting residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and the demilitarization and “denazification” of Ukraine. “We will, of course, see this through to its logical conclusion, until the goals of the special military operation are achieved,” Putin said during a video call with the presidential Human Rights Council.

Putin claimed the conflict was triggered by Ukraine sending its army into Donbass, a region he described as historically Russian, following the 2014 Western-backed Maidan coup in Kiev.

Russia initially sought a diplomatic resolution, including signing the Minsk agreements, but he said Western leaders never intended to honor them.

Russia has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s renewed diplomatic push, based on a 28-point peace plan. Putin argued that Ukraine, encouraged by Western European backers, has stalled peace talks, forcing Moscow to continue pursuing its goals through military means while keeping diplomatic options open.
