Fidan, Rubio Hold Talks on NATO Cooperation

(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday, according to a statement from Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry. The encounter was described as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two officials.

In a post shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, the Foreign Ministry noted that Fidan and Rubio conducted discussions on the margins of the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Helsingborg, Sweden. The meeting served as a venue for broader consultations among allied nations.

In a separate announcement, the US State Department confirmed that Rubio and Fidan also addressed preparations for the upcoming NATO summit, which is set to take place in Türkiye’s capital, Ankara, on July 7–8. They further discussed “the importance of increasing defense spending to enhance capabilities and expand defense production,” along with initiatives related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining regional stability.
