SpaceX's Upgraded Starship Rocket Nails Targeted Splashdown in Indian Ocean

(MENAFN) SpaceX launched its most capable Starship rocket to date on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the company's ambitious program to develop spacecraft capable of carrying humans to the Moon and eventually Mars.

The massive vehicle lifted off from SpaceX's Starbase launch facility in Texas, carrying a payload of simulated Starlink satellites as part of its 12th integrated test flight.

The launch came just after SpaceX founder Elon Musk publicly announced plans to list the company on public markets.

The upgraded Starship executed a precise controlled flip maneuver during descent before completing a targeted splashdown in the Indian Ocean, near a buoy bearing the Starlink logo, according to real-time mission updates posted online by SpaceX.

The company has conducted a succession of Starship test flights over recent years as it steadily advances toward Musk's long-standing ambition of building permanent human settlements on Mars, with testing increasingly focused on the spacecraft's landing and recovery systems ahead of future crewed operations.
