U.S. Embassy in Qatar Removes Travel Ban to Al Udeid Air Base
"Embassy personnel may resume normal access, and we no longer recommend limiting non-essential travel to the base," the statement confirmed.
The department also noted that it will continue to monitor developments in the region and will provide additional updates as necessary.
The decision follows an Iranian missile barrage at the air base on Monday, which escalated tensions after the U.S. military's strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities just a day prior.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American and Qatari forces "successfully" defended the base from the attack, assuring that no casualties were reported among U.S. or Qatari personnel.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, remarked on Thursday that the defense against the missile assault was "the largest single Patriot engagement in US military history."
"We were joined in this engagement by the Qatari Patriot crews," Caine added during a briefing with reporters.
